[Representations] Talk 0: Wherefore Representations

It’s taken a bit of time but I’m finally publishing the slides of my first “representations” talk. They are fairly comprehensive and self contained. Those of you who wanted to attend the talk but missed out, please feel free to take a look. In fact, I urge the ones who attended to go over these as well: I have added more material and figures; I have also added details and proofs for some parts that I had handwaved during the talk (citing “interest of time” of course).

The next talk will be on December 20th. I’m pushing the time slot to afternoon, around 3:30 PM IST, to make it convenient to some more people who want to attend this. I’m going to pick up from where I had left — sort of. The topic of the next session is “The Geometry of Distributed Hash Tables”. We will look at DHTs and their underlying geometrical structures. We will discuss the interplay of metric spaces, geometry, and graph theoretic representations as applied to DHTs, which form underpinnings of most distributed systems.

I’ll publish more details closer to the event. Feel free to share feedback and observations.
