“Come Back Home”

Make your feet come back the way they went,

make your legs come back the way they went,

plant your feet and your legs below,

in the village which belongs to us.

How do you distinguish between science and pseudoscience? Karl Popper, a philosopher of science, thought hard about this problem, and arrived at a principle called falsifiability. Scientific theories are inherently falsifiable. That is to say, they are amenable to refutation. No amount of evidence confirming a scientific theory “proves” its…

During the first few weeks after the lockdown began and we all started settling down — in a manner of speaking— to deal with the new normal, a few questions kept running through my mind constantly: What was the last major event or situation that had captured the collective imagination…

Just a while ago I came across something extremely bizarre and disturbing: the strangest case of plagiarism. Someone has parts of my PhD thesis and/or possibly entire sections including figures from papers I had published (with my advisor and collaborators) more than ten years ago, made some small seemingly random…

I came across this hard hitting and timeless poem by Primo Levi. I couldn’t help but make an attempt to translate it into Kannada.

ಹಾಸಿಗೆಗೆ ಒರಗುವಾಗ, ಎದ್ದೇಳುವಾಗ;
